As the summer is coming to a close, apple farmers in Prespa, Macedonia are getting ready for the harvest season. It looks like another promising year of production with more output than last year as newly planted orchards are beginning to yield at potential.

This years crop also features some new varieties of apples. While the Idared is a local favorite, the Janagold and the Muco with its distinctive flavor remain the most sought after variety. Demand for red and golden delicious is expected to remain strong and farmers are confident that they will have the supply necessary to fullfill the market.
Initial estimates for production are coming in between 80 and 100 thousand tons. This is an increase of 10% from last year.
